1. Pot odds are theratio of the current size of the pot to the cost of a potential call. They are critical fordetermining how often we need to expect to win to justify a call.

2. Equity tells usthe odds a hand will be the best hand by the river against an opponents hand or range.

3. The expectedvalue of a hand tells us how much money we expect to win when we take

a certain line. Itconsiders all money invested in the pot as dead money up to the

current decision.

4. Hands with moreequity are not necessarily better than hands with less equity. Its

important our handretains its equity against our opponents raising and calling

ranges. Thats why hands like the 98are almost always better than hands likethe A7.

5. Hands cannotsimply be ranked from strongest to weakest. Different hands perform

better in differentspots. For example, the is better inmultiway pots and the plays best in aheads up pot.

6. A polarized rangeconsists of mostly strong and weak hands. A condensed range

consists of mostlymedium strength hands. A betting or raising range will often but not always bepolarized, and a calling range will often be condensed.

7. Our betting rangewill almost always be polarized on the river. If we bluff too much, a

strong opponent willalways call with his bluff catchers, and if we bluff too little, he

will always fold hisbluff catchers. Thus, our goal is to make this player indifferent to

calling and foldingwith his marginal hands.

8. Hands cannotalways be classified as either a value bet or a bluff. This is especially

true on the flopwhen a bet can have both bluffing and value properties.

9. Our opponentshould often be close to indifferent between bluffing and folding the

worst hands in hisbluffing range.

10. Being inposition provides many benefits and greatly increases the profitability of a

players range.
