A range isconsidered to be a “polarized range“ when it consists mostly strong and weakhands and has few or no medium strength hands. This occurs in many spots suchas 3-betting ranged preflop 3-betting ranges and flop raising ranges, but it`smost clearly illustrated on the river. When a player bets on the end he`susually doing it either with a bluff to make stronger hands fold or with astring hand to get value from weaker hands, since it doesn`t make sense to betmedium strength hands if the opponent only calls when you are beaten.

 “양극화 된 레인지”는레인지에 강한 핸드 또는 약한 핸드로만 구성되어 있고 중간 정도 세기의 핸드는 없는 경우를 말한다. 종종양극화 된 레인지는 프리플랍 3벳 레인지나 플랍 레이즈 레인지에 사용된다. 그러나 이는 리버에서 명확하게 알 수 있다. 플레이어가 최종적으로베팅할 때는, 상대의 더 좋은 핸드를 폴드 시키기 위해 블러프 하던가,내 핸드가 강하다면 상대방의 핸드에게서 밸류를 받아내려는 것이다. 중간 정도로 강한 핸드로벳하는 것은 너한테 이기고 있는 핸드만 콜 할 것이므로 그리 좋은 선택이 아니다.

 Here`s an example, Aplayer opens in the cutoff and the button calls. The flop is the Kc  4s   2h the turn is the7h, and the river is the Jd. If the cutoff bet on the flop and the turn, wewould expect him to continue betting on the river with strong hands likeace-king and better for value and occasionally with weak hands such as misseddraws as a bluff. But we would not expect him to bet a hand like the QhJh sincebetting is unlikely to attract a call from weaker hand or get a better hand tofold.

예를 들어서 co에서오픈하고 버튼에서 콜을 해서 Kc 4s 2h 플랍이 깔렸고, 턴에 7h, 리버에 Jd 가 깔렸다. 만약 CO가 플랍과 턴에 벳한다면, 우리는 그가 AK이나 그보다 더 좋은 핸드로는 리버에도 벳할 것이며, 때떄로 말라버린드로우 같은 약한 핸드도 블러프 벳을 할 것입니다. 그러나 우리는 그가 QhJh 같은 핸드들은 더 좋은 핸드는 폴드할 것이며, 약한 핸드는콜하지 않을 것이므로, 벳하지 않을 것이라 예상할 수 있다.

The opposite of apolarized range is a “depolarized range” which we will refer to as a “condensedrange.” This is a range that consists mostly of medium strength hands and hasfew or no strong weak hands. A player will usually have a condensed range aftercalling or checking several times on a board texture where giving additionalcards with strong hands is risky.

양극화된 레인지의 반대말은 “양극화 되지 않은 레인지” 또는 “결집된레인지”이다. 이 레인지는 대부분이 중간 정도로 강한 핸드들로구성되어 있으며, 강하거나 약한 핸드는 매우 적다. 일반적으로강한 핸드가 추가로 카드를 보게 해주는 것이 위험한 보드에서 체크 또는 콜하는 경우에 결집된 레인지를 가지고 있다.

 Here`s an example. Aplayer check-calls on the QhTh4c flop and check-calls again when a 7s comes onthe turn. We would expect this check-calling range to include few of no stronghands since most of them would raise on either the flop or turn. Likewise, wewould also expect this range to include few or no weak hands since most weakhands would fold on either the flop or the turn. So as long as the river carddoes not cause many hands in the check-calling range to improve, the rangeshould remain condensed on the river.

 예를 들어, 만약플레이어가 Qh Th 4c 플랍에서 체크-콜 했고 턴에는 7s가 떨어졌고 다시 체크-콜 했다고 하자. 우리는 강한 핸드로는 플랍이나 턴에서 레이즈 했을 것이므로, 이체크-콜링 레인지에는 강한 핸드가 거의 없으리라고 예상 할 수 있다.마찬가지로 그가 플랍이나 턴에서 폴드하지 않았으므로, 우리는 이 체크-콜 레인지에 약한 핸드는 거의 없을 것이라고 예상할 수 있다.

It`s worth nothing that a polarized range of strong and weakhands is usually quite profitable and easy to play. Yet if our strategy is toalways raise our strong and weak hands, when we don`t raise we`re left with acondensed calling range which is usually quite problematic. That is, ouropponents can effectively make large bets when they know our range is condensedsince their value hands cannot be beat. Therefore, we will sometimes need toslowplay strong hands against skilled opponents to prevent them from being ableto overbet against us effectively.

 양극화된 레인지가 강하거나 약한핸드로만 구성되어 있어서플레이 하기 쉽고 일반적으로 수익이 난다는 것은 그렇게 유용하지 않다. 만약 우리의 전략이 강한 핸드와약한 핸드는 항상 레이즈 하고 나머지 결집된 레인지에 속하는 핸드로는 항상 레이즈 하지 않으면 문제가 생긴다. 상대가우리의 이러한 전략을 알고 있다면 우리가 결집된 레인지에 속하는 핸드를 가지고 있을 때, 우리의 결집된레인지는 상대방의 밸류레인지를 이기지 못하므로, 상대방은 매우 큰 사이즈로 베팅하기 시작할 것이다. 그러므로 우리는 때때로 우리의 강한 핸드를 숙련된 상대방이 오버벳하는것을 막기 위해 슬로우 플레이 해야할 필요가있다.

Lastly, ranges do not have to be polarized or condensed. Thisoften occurs on the flop on raised pots when both players have wide ranges andthe flop texture changed the strength of many hands which were called or raisedpreflop. For example, a bet in position on the Th 8h 4c flop will usuallyconsist of strong made hands, medium strength made hands, draws, and bluffs,and it`s neither a polarized or condensed range.

마지막으로레인지가 반드시 양극화 되거나 결집되어야만 하는 것은 아니다. 이는 프리에 레이즈가 있었고, 플랍에서 두 플레이어 모두 넓은 레인지를 가지고 있고 플랍 텍스쳐가 프리플랍 레이저와 프리플랍 콜러의 핸드의강함을 바꿔 놓을수 있을 때 자주 볼 수 있다. 예를 들어서 IP에서 Th 8h 4c 플랍에 벳하는 레인지에는 일반적으로 강한 메이드 핸드와, 중간정도로 강한 핸드와, 드로우들, 블러프들이 포함되어 있으며, 이는 양극화 된것도, 결집된 레인지도 아니다.
